[PLAYGROUP] IMCY Chat Cafe June 22nd 2016

The next Chat Cafe will be Wednesday June 22nd, 2016. As always from 15:00 to 16:30 at Fukushia Multipurpose room, 3F Yokohama First Place near Yokohama Station East gate.

*Your help is always appreciated! If you can come a bit earlier (14:45-14:50), please help us organize the room (hold and push out the tables and chairs to the walls to make a free space for young kids, take out joint mats etc.)

*Please bring baby or kids stuff in good condition that you wish to give away. If these items can''t find the second owner by the end of the playgroup, please bring them back with you.

*Some volunteer members will prepare cookies and cakes. If you would like some, we ask for the cost (usually 100yen per serving). Please put the money in the box.

*Please feel free to bring children's books to read at the playgroup. Any language is okay (if you can read).

*There is no changing table at Fukushia but you can change diapers using your changing mat on the floor.

*There is no nursing room either. You can feed your baby in the storage room or by using your cape in the room.

*This playgroup is run by on-time mothers of young children. There might be some inconvenience for you. We appreciate your kind understanding!

We are looking forward to seeing you then!

[IMCY ACTIVITY REPORT] IMCY Chat Cafe March 2016

We had IMCY Chat Cafe playgroup on March 30th, 2016 at Fukushia.

As it was in the middle of the Spring break, there were many older kids playing cheerfully. It's amazing that kids can be friends so quickly and have fun together. Of course, moms had a lot of fun, too!!

As always, we installed a give-away stand with some biscuits.

Our next Chat Cafe will be Wednesday, 22nd June.

[PREGNANCY] Maternity/Labor Taxi Services in Yokohama

When your due day is approaching, your doctor/mid-wife may ask you: how do you get here when the labor starts? If you don't have a car, or even if you do, you might worry if nobody can give you a ride.

Unless you are in a critical condition, for example, bleeding a lot or your labor progresses too quickly etc., you are not supposed to call the ambulance (119 in Japan). You can call a taxi, but some taxi drivers aren't eager to carry a pregnant woman (in case something bad happens to the mother/baby in the car or the water breaks and wet the seat and so on, though somewhat understandable).

There're some taxi companies that provide "Labor Taxi Service(陣痛タクシーJintsu Taxi)" in Yokohama. So here's the list.
You can register yourself beforehand so that it would be easier to call the taxi.

Notes:
1) Basically, the drivers engaged in the service have taken a special lesson to understand the maternity issue, but as they're not a doctor or a nurse, they can do nothing and take no responsibility to whatever happens in the taxi.

2) Even if you are registered, they might not be able to send you a taxi under some circumstances (natural disasters, traffic jam etc.).

3) Some companies have really small "territory" and they may not be able to send you a taxi (four companies turned me down saying my place is out of their territory). Confirm if your house and hospital are in their "territory" by mail or phone before registration.

4) Those taxis providing Labor Taxi Service usually don't charge you anything if you wet the seat, but prepare a large towel and a plastic sheet/bag before getting on the taxi to avoid the problem.

5) Fare and condition of use differ in each company (mostly no extra charge; normal fare or extra fare late at night or early in the morning, and pick-up charge). Please refer the website (use translation tools or have someone translate for you) of each company or ask them.

Details available in 9 languages (English, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, Vietnamese, Persian and Russian: PDF documents)

You can ask the Foreign License Section of the center beforehand (the number is written on the bottom of the documents above).

One of our members kindly read a couple of books in French. Children (and adults, too!) were interested in the sound of a "different" language and pictures. We welcome book time volunteers. Please don't hesitate to bring and read books at our Chat Cafe!

We placed a "Give-Away" table as usual, too, and there were also some cookies. We also welcome cookie volunteers. Please contact us if you're interested.
